The Dome Project

The Dome project is an initiative of mine to develop a dedicated performance space for my digital art which can be taken to both festivals and schools.

It consists of a large dome tent (purchased from sheltersystems.com) which houses a surround sound system and high definition projector. Inside, the dome is lined with a polar fleece material designed to achieve complete blackout and attenuate some external sound pollution. The HD animation is projected onto a 1.2m x 2.25m screen.

The purpose is to create an environment which offers absolutely no distractions from the visual/aural relationships experienced inside this dome.

The Content

Discovery, Familiarisation, Recognition;

A 9 minute music visualisation

This almost womb like environment is also necessary to counter the ever decreasing capacity for children (and progressively adults) to discipline their focus of attention. Almost a form of sensory deprivation, the dome experience banishes all the visual clutter which only too easily draws the mind into distraction. Consequently the audience is compelled to engage in the relationship between the music and the image.

The following video was taken from several of the festivals I have been to so far.
